One of the items on the agenda for Tuesdays ( tomorrow ) council meeting is the swimming pool survey. Last August the council entered into a partnership with the Denmark Aquatic Centre Committee ( DACCI ) to examine the NEED for a sustainable indoor heated aquatic facility ( a pool ) in Denmark. A project team was established , which yours truly sat on , we engaged a consultant - the Shire and DACCI split the cost - Jill Powell & Associates to conduct a survey. To cut a long story short - you can read about it in the agenda - the report identified a need and recommends that the council moves to the next stage and undertake a feasibility study.
This will be debated and voted on tomorrow night.
Any comments??( see Baz and Brian's comments in How to Post a Comment )

I would ask that the council fully support the next stage of the pool process which is to back a feasibility study. To do so does not lock the council into anything other than looking at models and costs and viability. Having already established that the community sees a need for a pool surely it is important to carry the process into this next vital fact findign stage. thanks. K. Buck
ReplyDeleteI am writing for the Denmark Over 50's Association (150 members).
ReplyDeleteThere is an increasing number of older citizens living in the shire of Denmark who would greatly benefit having access to a hydrotherapy facility.
We think that this facility could be easily included in an aquatic centre.
We urge councillors to support a feasability study so as to provide councillors with all the information needed to make an informed decision concerning the construction of a Denmark Aquatic Centre.
An aquatic centre in Denmark would be a great safe and healthy soloution for both young and old. As a mother of two young girls who will be taking lessons in Albany, why should our Denmarkian dollars go West? Keep Denmarkian dollars in Denmark! Theres clearly a need for healthy recreational soloutions for the youth of the town. Greens Pool requires both Sun and transport which is not accessable to all.
ReplyDeleteComing from a town of 250 population with our own pool (Binalong NSW), I find it hard to beleive that a town of our size doesn't have this facility to cater for the youth.
ReplyDeleteAt least the feasability study will indicate which direction we should take as a community concerning this matter.
What do we have to lose by taking this study?
Lets invest in our youth by guiding the community with facts from this study. I would rather my rates go towards the maintenance of a pool than a drug awareness campaign!
I urge Councillors to support the feasibility study for an aquatic centre in Denmark. The needs analysis indicates strong interest within our community. A feasibility study is the next logical step and, whatever the outcome, would allow the community to have a clearly documented account of all the factors that influenced the final decision.
ReplyDeleteHello Everybody,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments , I will certainly pass them on to the other councillors. The meeting starts at 4pm and all are welcome to attend.
Have you all voted in my How Big survey?
john, sorry i can't be at the mtg but please support the feasability study for our long overdue pool. heather williams (i don't need to be anon, i just couldn't work out how else to post!
ReplyDeleteHello Heather
ReplyDeleteWill do. Gee you are up late/early! Google posting is a bit frustrating i will admit. You can comment with your name if you select the name/url option...you dont need the url just your name. Cheers.
I certainly support the Feasibility Study. It is the next logical step in the process and it is non binding.
ReplyDeleteWe strongly support the proposal to move to a feasibility study for a Denmark Aquatic Centre.
ReplyDeleteHi John
ReplyDeleteI would like to register my support for the pool and its feasibility study. I imagine an appropriate decision cannot be made by council on this matter without all the facts and a feasibility study adds to the complete picture.
If Denmark can support a car wash, it can support a heated pool!
ReplyDeleteRe the car wash .... thats very witty, cant fault your logic.
ReplyDeleteI must remember this for council debate !
Where this picture has been taken ? !
ReplyDeleteGreens Pool in William Bay National Park.
ReplyDeleteNice eh?
